I was just watching the latest Trigger Happy TV, courtesy of the PVR built into my Dish Network receiver, and something struck me as very familiar about the scene. I haven’t made it all the way through the episode yet, but will shortly.
I noticed a building in the background of the second skit in which someone with lit cones is directing people like they are airplanes. What did I see? The Fontius building on the 16th Street Mall that has been abandoned for years so far as I know, with the familiar “for lease” sign on the window. There is also an arm in the scene with an RTD logo on it, as well as a familiar street sign which marks all of the streets on the 16th Street Mall.
I’m not sure why I’m so amazed and amused by this. I think it’s just because I worked downtown for quite some time up until about three months ago, and it would have been hilarious to see them doing their thing in person. I have already seen plenty of strange things on the Mall without having Trigger Happy TV there, though.
This weekend, Andrea and I did see a couple of guys running around on the mall wearing red long johns. On the outside of the long johns were tighty whiteies. She remarked “I’ve seen more crazy people here than I did in New York.” Of course I didn’t have to tell her I probably would have done the same thing a few years ago just for laughs– she already knew that.
