Germany — Day Three

18Oct03

This is just a quick update.. we are getting ready to head out for the day.

Yesterday once Andrea got off of work, we went to downtown Neustadt to walk around a bit, and also stopped by the train station to get some more information about taking a train to Paris. Downtown was pretty cool–it always amazes me how old some of the buildings in Germany are. One of them which they were in the process of restoring was from the 1300′s. I also had the worst Pepsi ever from some fast food place, but supposedly it was somewhere that is worse from McDonalds.

From downtown we headed to the supermarket, or as I called it, “The Grocery Adventure of Death!!!111″ I have never been to such a busy grocery store. If I had to shop there again, I think I’d have a mental breakdown on the spot. It was busy enough to where I felt like you would have to circle around an aisle until you had a clear spot to grab what you were looking for on the go. If you missed it, tough shit. You would need to take the 10 minute crawl around the aisle again. Apparently its even worse on Saturday’s? No thanks! We only picked-up a few things really, and plenty of beer and other alcoholic drinks which aren’t available in the states, including a mixture of cola and beer, and a mixture of tequlia and beer. We easily spent more on alcohol than food.

After coming back home, we pretty much made plans for the rest of my stay here, and they look something like this:

Today (Saturday):
Going to Stuggart to see the Porsche Museum, meet Andrea’s paranoid boyfriend who is probably going to mark his territory all day, and go to some sort of arts festival.

Sunday:
Going to Kaiserslautern to an Oktoberfest sort of event. It doesn’t get any better than Hefeweizen and Bratwurst for breakfast.

Monday:
Heidelburg (apparently a popular place for American’s to visit.. a lot of old buildings and the like.)

Tuesday and Wednesday:
Taking a train to Paris, staying there for one night. Eifel Tower and perhaps the Louveres Museum.

Thursday-Sunday:
Driving to Amsterdam on Thursday, and back on Sunday. Sounds like we’ll be seeing some of rural Holland as well as Amsterdam itself.

Monday and Tuesday: Not sure yet.. I’ll be doing something alone.

Wednesday: Time to come home. :(
