Beam Slated to Record Second Album

24Feb04

One of my favorite “you probably haven’t heard of them” groups, Beam, is getting ready to work on their second album. Their website is finally operational as well!

BEAM::Re-Session
Beam will be entering into AAM Studios on April 9th, 10th, and 11th to record material for our 2nd album. And we’re planning an incredible series of events for this recording session that we’re really excited about. BEAM::Re-Session, will give our fans a chance to come into the studio with us on Friday April 9th and Saturday April 10th.

We’ll be laying down tracks on our own during the day and in the evening we’re going to bring our club vibe right into the studio with us by opening the doors to the public and inviting our fans to come in and throw down with us right there in AAM Studios. We’re still in the early phases of planning BEAM::Re-Session, but we can tell you we’ll be having 3 different events for you to attend. Friday April 9th will be a 21 and over event, and Saturday April 10th we’ll have 2 shows, with the early show being all-ages and the late show being 21 and over. Keep checking this site for updates or join our mailing list to stay informed.

They pretty much only play in Philly, but I’d love to hear them do a live show sometime. Pretty cool that they are letting their fans join them in the studio.

For an idea of what their music is like, check out their first album on CD Baby.

Beam combines elements of Hip Hop, Rap, live drum and bass, Trip Hop, Ambient, and groove jazz to form deep urban textures and soundscapes improvised on the spot each night.

The band is comprised of drummer David Throckmorton (Maynard Ferguson, Diane Schuur), Paul Thompson (Stanley Turrentine), Steve Landay (Rusted Root’s Jenn Wertz, Push), DJ Supa C, and Akil Esoon.

Formed in 1999, Beam pushes the boundaries of rap and traditional improvised jazz fusion to create soundscapes and textural grooves that are like no other band you’ve ever heard.

Beam is Beam
