Intelligent People Tend to be More Secular

Is it more logical to be a Christian? Is religion the natural choice of a smart person familiar with more of the evidence? Not according to a broad consensus of studies on IQ and religiosity. These studies have consistently found that the lower the IQ score, the more likely a person is to be religious.

I probably shouldn’t post something like this which is such an emotional issue for most people… however…

My own personal opinion is that I think that religion, as well as far-fetched conspiracy theories, are an easy escape from issues which are either difficult, or impossible to understand for those that feel there is and/or should be an answer to everything. It also gives some sort of guidance to those who need solid structure and guidance about how to carry on with their lives. However, if it makes you sleep better, I do respect your choice to think and practice what you want– it’s only my personal opinion!

This is coming from someone who attended church pretty regularly growing-up with Christian parents, and currently attends a Jesuit University (though liberal arts), for what it’s worth.
