Well, I finally had the courage to try to adopt a dog again, and I picked up the new puppy tonight, Audrey. Audrey is a 1.5 year old Greyhound. She’s a bit of a runt– maybe 50 lbs. tops. She’s potty trained, likes to play with toys (rare for a greyhound), is cat friendly, and seems to do okay in the crate from initial testing. She’s black in color with just a couple of white spots.
I haven’t been able to get her to go to the bathroom on the leash yet, but I’m sure she’ll wake me up whining in the middle of the night. Oh well, she hasn’t had any accidents according to her foster family, so hopefully she’ll wake me up so I can take her out instead of cleaning up a mess instead.
I need to trim her nails, give her a bath and start working on her dry skin, otherwise she’s fine. She is so small that she can come out of her collar pretty easily, so I’m going to get her chipped soon when I take her into the vet for an initial visit and perhaps some additional vaccinations. If you didn’t know it already, Greyhounds are very hard to catch once they get loose, and I don’t want that to happen.
