Pitcher Is Banned For Being Too Good

30May04

At age 11, Anthony Seblano has a fiery fastball that’s a blessing and a curse.

The Brooklyn sixth-grader, nicknamed The Rocket, was recently yanked off the mound and banned from pitching against the St. Athanasius Youth League team - all because he’s too good.

Huh, something similar to being banned from some games has actually happened to someone I know, before. My friend Michael Thompson (who was drafted out of High School in the 5th round of 1999 and is currently a pitcher for the AA Mobile Bay Bears) was pitching against this team in Little League once, and the parents were screaming at the umpires to pull him out of the game because he was “throwing too hard” It was crazy!

You could hear their whole crowd gasp at each fastball. And keep in mind, he is three years younger
than me, and IIRC, this was my last year of Little League. The parents on the other team were totally pissed at him– it was completely ridiculous. I remember him wanting to try pitching left handed against them just to see how he would do since everyone was already pissed off at him anyhow.

All that I can say is you shouldn’t play the game if you’re going to be a pussy about it.

He always had scouts coming to check him out starting in Babe Ruth… it’s pretty cool to have been around talent like that growing-up. I haven’t ran into him for quite awhile though…
