This weekend my main workstation totally took a dump and does not make it past the whole POST thing. My guess at this point is that the CPU is dead, but I’m not really wanting to start replacing things to get it to work again. It’s almost 3 years old, so I decided to just order a new workstation. This will be the first PC that I haven’t built myself (since the IBM 286 AT that I got as a hand-me-down when I was 10 or so), so hopefully I’ll be okay with it. I’ll eventually replace the CPU in the dead machine and turn it into my new webserver.
Here are the highlights of the specs:
- Pentium® 4 Processor 540 with HT Technology (3.20GHz, 800 FSB)
- 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2×512M)
- 15 in (15.0 in viewable) E152FP Flat Panel Display (selling this bad boy on eBay; I already have a 19″ flat panel)
- 128MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon™ X300 SE
- 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
- 128MB Dell USB Memory Key
- Dual Drives: 48x CD-RW Drive + 12x DVD+RW/+R w/ double layer write capable
- Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 (D) Card with Dolby® Digital 5.1 capability (this should go well with my monster THX certified sound system)
Unfortunately it’s not shipping until the July 28th, so I’m stuck on a Celeron 466 until then running SuSe 9.1 Professional. Fun times.
