I think they would take the chance to monitor and regulate every last thing if they could-- to the point of violating free speech. I was always a fan of Clinton, but one of his biggest mistakes as President was the passage of the DCMA. It pales in comparison to the Patriot Act, but it's definitely number 2 on my shit list. On the other hand, I think the current administration is also very extreme, and does not represent your typical Republican views. I find it really hard to believe that they are throwing any support behind HR 4077 (the Piracy Deterrence and Education Act). I'm sure RIAA and MPAA are throwing a lot of money everyone's way about that, though... Overall I would consider myself on the left side of the fence, but I'm a fan of government not getting in the way of day to day activities and business for the most part.
