As someone who’s lost faith in domestic auto brands in the past 8 years or so, I’m very impressed with the new Ford Mustang. Even better, the new Shelby GT500 is just frigging awesome. I’ll take two please! Here’s hoping it includes an independent rear suspension and doesn’t have a live axle like the new Mustang’s…
I wonder if they will offer some sort of Eleanor package too? Yum.

I read somewhere that it doesn’t have an IRS… bummer.
OK, here’s a bit of info you might like to know.
First, if anyone is asking, yes SVT and Carroll Shelby are working together on the new GT500′s.
Secondly, I am sorry to say Mr. Harper, but the intended IRS has been dropped by FORD to save around $70 million, and they are sticking with the live, though they do comment that the IRS wasn’t all that much better than the live, performance wise, so I’m not going to complain too much.
Guys,
First of all let me point out that the 2006 and 2007 Shelbys are NOT the same creature… the 2006 can’t compare with the 2007!
Secondly, yes, the IRS is out… but I read a very good article… somewhere (can’t remember no just where) as to why. And yes, the IRS wasn’t much better if at all.
Thirdly… I’m gettin’ one… You?!? I’ve already put my $1000 down on it, guaranteeing me one of the only (I think) 7000 that will be made each year. Gonna add another $9,000 to that down-payment at time of signing to get the $800 per month payments down a bit. There is a money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with the actual production model or if you change your mind, so I figure its a good deal!

Hi gang,
Let me clear up a slight bad choice of words from my last post/reply…
I said “I’ve already put my $1000 down on it,” and that’s true, I have. However, I was speaking in terms of having already set aside my money for this car, not necessarily that I have alreay paid my deposit to the dealership. I have actually put this money, and nother $1000 since then, into a new savings account that I set up for the sole purpose of buying this car when released. I apologise for my loose terminology.
HOWEVER…
… my dealership (J C Lewis Ford of Savannah, GA) DID tell me that I could pay my deposit at any time, contrary to what some of you who have contacted me have found out from other dealers which have refused to take a down payment. So what the true deal is here, I have no idea. It may be, though, since I did get to them fairly early in the game on this matter, that my dealership was still in the dark when I first talked to them about a down payment. I dunno… beats me!
Hope someone out there can clear this up.

John,
A note about dealerships taking down payments…
Ford has not authorized any dealerships to take downpayments, and from what my dealer says, those who are doing so are unscrupulous. Distribution to particular dealers (SVT only) will be limited to 1 or 2.
see http://thegt500source.com/2005/articles/shelbygt500.dealerallocati.html
There is a dealer here in North Denver taking $5000 deposits, and they have taken a suitcase full, but the only guarantee you have is that you will get your money back if they don’t get you the car. In the mean time, your money is sitting in their account drawing interest.
Each dealership has a list of interested parties, and most will call them in the order they appear on the list. Many customers (me for one) have been on the list for over a year or more. According to the dealership I am working with, most customers only want literature, but the offer will only go to a few, and once they are gone, that’s it. Order codes will be available to dealers in late November 2005.
I wish you luck in getting a car, but set your expectations accordingly. ANd, as should be expected, I hope I get mine before you get yours

1 or 2 per dealership? Has it been confirmed that only 7000 per year will be produced?
Has actually now been confirmed that up to 10000 per next 3 years will be manufactured, if there’s a demand.
Having been the most powerful factory-built Mustang ever, owning one is definitely a priviledge. A modern interpretation of the Shelby Mustang of the 1960s, the new GT500 uses advanced engineering to attain the performance that made the original GT500 the king of the road. Having to own this iconic vehicle really entails that we need to shed out bigger bucks.
