More and more lately, I’ve been thinking pretty hard about starting a short sleeve on one of my arms– maybe just to not even quite midway down my bicep. I already have a small 4 leaf clover on one arm, and the other is a clear canvas. In that process, I’ve began to wonder where exactly I come from as Harper’s primarily come from Ireland, England, and Scotland (in that order). The reason being because if my lineage is Irish, I’ll do an Irish themed sleeve as I already have it started. Unfortunately no one in the family knows much past my Grandpa’s generation for a variety of reasons, so I’ve been attempting to learn more by searching Ancestory.com.
So far I haven’t got that far up the Harper surname path, but I think the next step for me is to order my Grandpa’s birth certificate since no one seems to know for sure who his parents are (long story). On the otherhand, I’ve been able to trace up my Grandma’s side of the family to 1814 so far, including a member of the family who fought in the Civil War. Pretty cool stuff!
After talking with my sister, I think on my mom’s side of the family I might be 3rd-4th generation American, one of our ancestors being a stowaway on a ship from Germany. Hopefully it will be a little easier to figure out. I also recall hearing something about being part Sioux at some point which would explain why I don’t have a pasty white complexion I suppose.
