… and like having jobs being outsourced to other countries, seeing small businesses investing back into the community replaced with jobs that pay unliveable wages, enjoy urban sprawl, don’t mind buying low quality products (some of which were produced by slavery), love extra traffic, and think that big box stores and their associated asphalt jungles bring character to an older cozy neighborhood, I’d encourage you to vote no on 2A and 2B.
You know, there was a day when Wal-Mart wasn’t like 180% evil, but it’s been quite a long time– I think it’s morality went to the grave with Sam Walton. Remember when they used to push all of the “Made in the USA” stuff there? I wonder if you can even buy an American flag or “Git ‘er Done” sticker there which was made in the US these days? On a side note– I’d highly encourage you to shop at CostCo instead as they actually treat their workers well and run the place with some good old-fashioned business ethics.
If these amendments don’t pass, I’ll have a WalMart a stone’s throw away from where I live, and that’s kind of annoying because I sort of like my ghetto hood without any modern “amenities” other than the Starbucks they put in a couple of years back (though I’d gladly go to a good mom and pop coffee place instead if it existed).
Generally people in the City and County of Denver will keep stuff like this from happening to their neighborhoods, but I wonder what the Westminster voters will say.
Oh, and not that anyone cares, but personally I endorse these candidates for the Westminster City Council:
- Michael D Melio
- Bruce Vezina
Michael Litzau- Monty Moore
10.29.2005 Update:
Westminster City Council candidate Bruce Vezina came across this entry and has exchanged a couple of e-mails with me to let me know that Michael Litzau has said he would vote “no” on 4A and 4B at 4 different forums, so I need to do some more research this weekend and decide who the third person is that I’d like to vote for.

Dude, we need more Wal-Marts. It’s getting too expensive to drive my H2 so far between Wal-Mart/Starbucks stops. And, the expansive parking lots are good for scenic views, nice and open…none of those pesky trees in the way. Plus, we don’t have to plant as much, so less water is used. Gosh, man, get with the program, this is neo-environmentalism. Get on board. (DISCLAIMER: The previous message was brought to your from a sarcastic mind. On this issue, the author has beliefs that mirror those of the site operator. I support urban renewal and in-fill with urban villages in blighted areas, but feel that viable neighborhoods should NOT be candidates for ‘nuke and pave’ policies. Anyone that disagrees with me is welcome to speak your mind, for a little bit longer, until the psycho-babble Bush administration alters USPATRIOTACT to crash-cart us into a McCarthistic era, once again. So, vote for your silly Wal-Mart and asphalt, vote for your moronic tax cuts, vote to kick the poor out of therapy and into jails, vote for the criminal negligence behind so the decisions that have killed 1,986 and wounded 15,220 Americans in Iraq, left Americans on top of their roofs to starve in New Orleans, and has been wrapped up in the nastiest combination of campaign finance scandal and top secret leaks known to any recent administration…and after you vote for all that madness, enjoy sleeping on your bed of nails.)
