Something that not many people know about me is that I’m fairly left-brained and in general would consider myself fairly artistic. I grew-up doing charcoal sketches and eventually moved to the electronic medium with the advent of the web. Though I’ve always done programming since a young tike as well, my start in the web world was as a graphic designer. I even did a Flash subsite for a large US corp circa Flash 2 or 3. In general with some training I think I could be a pretty decent graphic artist at some point, but after doing it for awhile very early in my career it was too soul crushing for me because people would always fuck-up my work (“it needs to pop!”, “can we make the logo bigger?”), and really I enjoy and am much more consistent in writing software.
That said, I recently bought a Lacie external USB drive and have been cleaning old stuff off of my machine to put onto it and came across a bunch of my old work. You can check it out here if you’re bored. A lot of it is kind of silly since I did it in my late teens / early 20′s and is probably embarrassing enough to leave tucked away, but at the same time it’s kind of fun to look back at some of it too.
Also, I’ve been doing a lot of work in the house lately, buying new furniture, etc. I’m far from done with this place as there are a lot of little details I need to take care of, painting to do, more artwork to buy, need to finish replacing outlets with stainless steel faces, have a bunch of the old furniture lying around which I need to sell, etc, but you can check out some of the progress here. So yeah, I’m a single heterosexual computer geek with a reasonably tastefully decorated and mostly clean house– who’d of thought? There is a bunch of dog related clutter in the dining area that I’ll take care of once I get some old furniture sold and can put in some shelving.. I also have a rug waiting to go in there as well.
