How do I dare say this to you moronic war supporters who are “Supporting our Troops” and waving the flag and all that happy horse shit? I’ll tell you why. I’m a Marine and I served my tour in Iraq. My husband, also a Marine, served several. I left the service six months ago because I got pregnant while he was home on leave and three days ago I get a visit from two men in uniform who hand me a letter and tell me my husband died in that fucking festering sand-pit. He should have been home a month ago but they extended his tour and now he’s coming home in a box.

You fuckers and that god-damn lying sack of shit they call a president are the reason my husband will never see his baby and my kid will never meet his dad.

On a related note, Henry Rollins rants about the current religious movements in the US, and although his round-about presentation could have been better, he drops enough f-bombs to make me happy.

It used to be the case that in order to be considered a “liberal” or someone “of the Left,” one had to actually ascribe to liberal views on the important policy issues of the day – social spending, abortion, the death penalty, affirmative action, immigration, “judicial activism,” hate speech laws, gay rights, utopian foreign policies, etc. etc. These days, to be a “liberal,” such views are no longer necessary.

A very insightful post. While you’re at it, give the World’s Smallest Political Quiz a try (via Rod). I’m just barely in the liberal category surprisingly enough– while socially I scored 90%, economically I scored 40% (0% being uber liberal).

So I guess that means I support social diversity & tolerance and moderate economic policies to help keep people educated and with jobs? I’m riding the Centrist / Libertarian / Liberal fence it would appear which would probably explain why I haven’t been compelled enough to register as a Democrat rather than an Independent.

The Senate needed 60 votes to override a filibuster and end debate, which is called “invoking cloture.” Cloture would have brought the Patriot Act to a final vote, allowing the Senate to renew it by a simple majority.

But only 52 senators voted to cut off debate; 47 voted against cloture.

The move lays the groundwork for a high-stakes showdown.

Being someone who drives a smaller car than the average American, I’m looking forward to a shift to smaller, more fuel efficent vehicles in the US. I just can’t justify a large vehicle for that 2-3 instances a year that I need one, and I like the intimacy of the drive you get with a smaller car. Even better will be when Denver has the whole new FasTracks plan implemented, but it’s strange to think that I’ll be 40 or so before that’s done..
