I really wish I’d taken my own advice a couple of years ago and tried to sell my place to instead rent for awhile. The bubble has burst, and it’s not pretty.

Stocks take a turn for the worse as investors scoff at the Fed’s decision to step in yet again, this time adding $3 bln in temporary reserves. At $35 bln (the sum of the first two repos), the Fed had already stepped in more aggressively than its actions following the 9/11 attacks to calm a nervous market.

Since a third injection is unprecedented, as such infusions typically only occur during a crisis, investors are again left wondering just how bad the subprime situation is and questioning whether or not an emergency rate cut would even be enough to avert a possible true credit crunch.

I’ve seen Jim Cramer go asplodey before, and mostly I just generally find him entertaining rather than taking his advice seriously at all, but he really went AWOL on CNBC about this same issue recently.

My assessors evaluation this year showed that my place has lost value, homes in the area are now selling for about 10-15% less than I paid four years ago, and many houses have gone to into foreclosure in this area. I’m still waiting to see what prices the homes that recently sold in a foreclosure auction went for wondering how much they will bring the value of my place down. I do somewhat regret buying a place when I was so young, but maybe it’s better in the long run to learn this lesson on a relatively inexpensive piece of property with a standard 30 year loan.

Today is pretty much the wrong weather for my Datsun 280Z here in Colorado, but it made Autoblog’s Readers Ride of the Day! <img src="http://static.flickr.com/136/326398361_d31eb97627_m.jpg" width="240" height="160" alt="1976 Datsun 280Z (with details)" / border="0" hspace="20" vspace="20" align="left"/> Judging by the comments, there are plenty of people who also still love the old Z’s too.

I haven’t much touched the car since I bought it other than typical old car maintenance items (for the most part, I like doing all of my own work), so I’ll be kind of interested to see the comments it generates on it’s current state. Sometimes I want to leave it alone, other times I’m ready to do a few minor things to it.

For a little more about Autoblog, as far as I know it’s one of the most popular blogs about cars out there (each entry seems to generate tons of comments) and most gearheads who are also interweb nerds seem to read it. As for me, I’ve loved cars as long as I can remember and have owned at least two at a time for the past 8 years or so.

I’m proud to announce that I’m now part of the ColdFusion Developer’s Journal Editorial Board. We have quite an impressive list of experienced developers and evangelists in the community, and I’m honored to be part of the great group helping steer the magazine along with Jeremy and Simon.

I’ve always enjoyed writing and critiquing technical content, starting with being a Technical Editor on Inside ColdFusion MX, which now seems like a very long time ago. Since then the ColdFusion book market has been consolidated so I haven’t had the chance to work on a book again, but I have wrote a few things for the CFDJ, and occasionally post something on my blog which reaches a much larger audience than I expected. I think I have a fairly unique perspective on ColdFusion since I’m not a very typical CF developer, and hopefully I can bring an interesting and useful perspective to the group.

One thing which has already been discussed is some of the poor choices of aggregating blog entries as articles without author’s permission, and I have also been a bit critical of Sys-Con previously myself. As Jeff already posted, this is something which seems to be in the past and weren’t part of the daily operations of the print version of the CFDJ. However, I think the new board will continue the evolvement of the magazine since Simon took over as Editor in Chief, and we’d love to hear any additional feedback or suggestions (including article proposals of course) about the publication you’d like to provide.

I’ve been making minor changes here and there to this site lately, and in general trying to figure-out where all of my visitors come from (about 1,600 unique visitors per day). During the process I’ve noticed my entries which are the most organically popular happen to be my reviews and experiences with various products.

I spend quite a long time researching purchases of goods, to the point of becoming a bit of an expert on the range of products that compare to what I end-up purchasing, etc. Given the amount of time I spend on research and the popularity of the reviews on my site, I decided to create a new blog titled Reviewfoo. This will be the new home of my research and reviews going forward, and I plan to write more on the subject any time I spend a considerable amount of time researching something before a purchase.

As an avid web-surfer and first adopter, I also intend Reviewfoo to the the place for regularly passing news and tips for everyday things such as finance, “life hacks”, home improvement, etc between my reviews. It’s a fairly general interest blog and you might find a new useful tip there from time to time. Check it out and let me know what you think!

While I do not posess a lot of the dead giveaway traits of a typical geek (I’m not into fantasy stuff like Lord of The Rings at all, have never played DnD, I can talk to the opposite sex without staring at my feet, etc), there are certainly some traits I do have. I almost hate to admit it, but one of my favorite TV channels over the past few months has been the Research Channel. It’s on channel 9000-something on Dish Network, and is essentially just a bunch of recorded college lectures in the fields of Science and Technology. Over the past few months I’ve seen lectures on everything from Obesity (guilty as charged) to the Internet2, and it’s been super great.

If you’re of curious mind and get tired of watching 800 commercials for 2 minutes of light content, I’d highly recommend checking it out. You can also stream it from their website, as well as watch old shows. I’d say it’s sort of a cross between PBS and C-Span for sci-tech really, but probably very dry if you never found yourself enjoying any college lectures.

I took the new laptop to Starbucks this weekend to do a bit of homework, and much to my surprise I was able to get on the intaratron for free as I’m an existing T-Mobile customer. Apparently they have a limited time offer for existing T-Mobile customers to get free Wi-Fi at any T-Mobile Hot Spot during the weekend. Cool stuff, though I’d rather just go to an indie coffeeshop and get it for free anytime.

Basically all that you have to do is fire-up your browser at a Hot Spot Location, find the “free weekend” link (though it’s kind of buried), enter in your phone number in the form, and they will text you back a code to use which is good for a month. You can read more about the process here.

Major Hotspots seem to include Starbucks, Borders, Kinko’s, and various areas in major airports, though it’s probably best to use the Hot Spot locator to find it near you.

I was just checking-up on an old hobby of mine and saw that John Shepard has went down into the 7 second range in the 1/4 mile. This is absolutely insane, especially considering it’s just 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, the car is still registered and insured to be driven on the street, has a full interior, stock frame, etc. From past experience I would guesstimate he’s pushing anywhere from 900 to 1100 HP out of that little 4 banger. 2 Liters is not even half the displacement of your typical smallblock V8.

To give you an idea about how fast this is, I have never heard of anything faster which is still able to be driven on the street, and in fact this car would make most “trailer queens” at the track look silly. A 10 second street car is rare, 9 second track only “door slammer” at an amateur level is almost unheard of, and by comparison 7 seconds just insane by someone without any major sponsorship, etc, much less it being still able to drive on the street.
